City Parks


From ocean vistas to flower gardens and from playgrounds to baseball fields, South Coast cities offer residents and visitors to the community a number of park facilities.

Opportunities include skateboarding in Coos Bay's Mingus Park, bike riding along the Munsel Creek Bike Path in Florence, watching a concert in Azalea Park in Brookings or launching a boat at Coquille's Sturdivant park.
Below is a listing, city by city, of the city parks on the South Coast and the facilities they offer.

Bandon
Bandon City Park, the main city-operated park in town, is located on 11th Street between U.S. Highway 101 and Beach Loop Drive. The park includes baseball and softball fields and a couple basketball courts, a playground area, areas for picnicking, a stage, park trails for walking, a skate boarding area and restrooms.

Coos Bay
One of the best-known parks on the South Coast is Coos Bay's Mingus Park. The park, on both sides of 10th Street, includes a variety of different facilities. On the east side of the road are a softball field, two tennis courts and a skateboard park. The portion of the park on the west side of 10th Street includes the Mingus Park lake, playground equipment, a basketball hoop, picnic tables and a restroom, as well as the city pool, a stage and rhododendron garden. In the far reaches of Mingus Park is the popular Choshi Japanese Garden. Maintained by volunteers, these gardens feature a creek crossed by bridges, walkways and a pond - surrounded with bulbs, maples, bushes and other trees designed to reflect landscaping in Coos Bay's sister city Chosi, Japan.
The city's largest recreation area is John Topits Park, located off Newmark Avenue in the area of Empire Lakes. The park features several paved hiking/biking trails. The middle lake area includes a small children's play area, a restroom facility and a boat launch for rowboats and canoes, but no gas-powered motors are allowed. The lower lake area has a swimming beach and there are some picnic tables in the area. The lakes are also good for fishing.
Coos Bay also features several other parks.
The Tenth Street Park, located just off 10th and Johnson streets, includes a half-court basketball hoop and playground equipment.
Taylor Wasson Park, on the corner of Taylor and Wasson streets in Empire, has playground equipment.
The Eastside Park, between D and E streets, includes a small baseball field, some picnic tables and playground equipment.
Also in Eastside, Windy Hill Park, on the 14th Avenue between E and F streets, includes a two-hoop basketball court.

Coquille
Coquille's signature park is Sturdivant Park, which is located just off state Highway 42 South on the west end of town.
The park includes restrooms, a boat ramp, a covered picnic gazebo that can be reserved and several picnic tables, baseball and softball fields, horseshoe pits, a fort that serves as a play area for kids and a playground. The park also offers overnight camping.
Fifth Street Park, located on Fifth Street near Coquille Valley Hospital, includes tennis courts, a basketball court and a volleyball court. The park also has a playground area for children and restroom facilities.
Another park is located behind the Coquille Community Building Park, and includes a playground area for children and a picnic area with a fireplace. The community building also is the location of the public swimming pool.
Coquille's other city park is Sanford Heights Park, which is unique in its location, surrounded by houses in the middle of a city block. The park is accessible by paths from Knott Street, West 10th Street and West 11th Street and includes a tennis court and a basketball court, as well as playground equipment.

Lakeside
Lakeside doesn't have any city parks, but does have Tenmile Lake County Park, which features boat ramps, a fishing dock, restrooms and a picnic area. The park is off 11th Street.

Myrtle Point
The city of Myrtle Point offers several parks, including Rotary Park, located at the corner of C and Harris streets.
The park includes a playground area, a picnic area that includes a pavilion, tennis courts and portable toilets.
Lehnherr Park, located at the corner of Spruce and First streets, has a skateboard park.
At the top of Maple Street is Lions Park, which includes a baseball/softball field, a playground area and portable toilets.
Sunset Park is a community park on Sunset Street with a small playground area.

North Bend
One of North Bend's most popular recreation areas is Ferry Road Park, located on Ferry Road east of U.S. Highway 101. The park includes a softball/baseball field, two sand playgrounds, two horseshoe pits, picnic tables including a shelter, restrooms, a basketball area and a paved walking/biking path.
Across the highway from Simpson Park is Windsor Park, the city's disc golf course, with nine baskets and a total of 18 holes weaving through the woods.
One of the most popular areas for young children to play is Boynton Park, located just off Newmark Street near its intersection with Sherman Avenue. The park includes an extensive play area, as well as a baseball/softball field, restrooms and a few picnic tables.
North Bend's largest neighborhood recreational spot is Airport Heights Park, which includes four developed and four undeveloped acres along Colorado Street. The area includes a playground, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, baseball fields and tennis courts.
Near Southwestern Oregon Community College, College Park takes up a full block, surrounded by Ash, Wall, Oak and Lombard streets. The park includes a playground area in the shape of a seahorse, restrooms, picnic tables, benches and paved walking paths.
Located at Oak and Kinney streets, Oak Street Park has a half-court basketball court.
Another park with a half-court basketball facility is State Street Park, located between State and Commercial streets near Cedar Street. The park also has playground equipment.

Powers
The city of Powers features one of the top county parks in Powers County Park, which includes camping facilities, picnic tables, a pond for fishing, playground equipment and basketball and tennis courts.
The city also operates Orchard Park, which is located two miles south of town on the Powers Highway. The park includes a swimming hole, a picnic area and restrooms and has an area for overnight camping.
Centennial Park, a small community park downtown, includes a few picnic tables.

Reedsport
Reedsport includes a couple different parks with baseball and softball fields. Champion Park is located on Juniper Street east of Highway 101 and includes a baseball field, picnic tables, a picnic area and restrooms.
At the south end of town is Highland Park, located near Longwood Drive and Ranch Road. The park includes softball and baseball fields and an area for soccer, a picnic pavilion that can be reserved, tennis courts, restrooms and a walking path.
Lions Park, located at the intersection of the highway and 20th Street, includes playground equipment and picnic tables. There's also a 13,000-square-foot skatepark that's popular with all ages.Fun, relaxation are at dozens of city parks
