Brookings

Brookings is located in Curry County on U.S. Highway 101. It is the coastâ's southernmost city. Incorporated in 1951, the city was named for lumber baron Robert S. Brookings.

A popular retirement town, the community also attracts visitors for ocean and river sport fishing. Commercial fishing vessels also are based here, bolstering the economy with hauls from the Pacific. The Chetco River, just south of town, is popular with salmon fishermen and recreationalists. Itâ's also a gateway to the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area, a favorite with hikers, campers and amateur botanists.
